| Britney Jean Spears was born on December 2, 1981 in
Kentwood, Louisiana, USA, to parents Lynn Bridges (Woolemore) and Jamie
Parnell Spears. She has a brother Bryan and a younger sister, Jamie Lynn
Spears who plays the lead on Nickelodeon's Zoey 101. Britney started singing
since she was a little girl, appearing on the television show Star Search
at eight year.
In 1993 and 1994, Britney worked on Disney's The New Mickey Mouse Show,
a variety show for kids alongside other future artists like Christina
Aguilera and Justin Timberlake.
Her success began in 1998 when she released her debut song "Baby
One More Time," which earned nine million of copies worldwide. The
music video of the song showed Britney dressed in a schoolgirl uniform.
In 1999 she released the album of the same title, for which she received
two Grammy nominations - Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance
(for "Baby One More Time"). It reached # 1 on the Billboard
200.
The following year Britney landed another chart-topping “Oops,
I Did It Again,” breaking records for most radio station additions
in a single day. It soon became a top ten hit in the United States and
other countries. In the same year, she embarked in her first world tour,
the "Oops!... I Did It Again World Tour". She performed at the
2000 MTV Video Music Awards, revealing a stimulating nude-colored wardrobe
that caused a lot of buzz. She earned two Grammy nominations for Oops!...
I Did It Again and two more Billboard Music Awards.
In November of 2001, Britney made an attempt to change her image. Her
new album, self-titled Britney suggested a more grownup and sexier style.
She co-hosted the American Music Awards with LL Cool J and signed a multi-million
dollar contract with Pepsi. The same year she co-wrote a book with her
mother Lynne, named Britney Spears's Heart-to-Heart.
Her debut on the big screen was in 2002 with “Crossroads”.
The movie was a flop in theatres, but she was nominated for the MTV Movie
Awards for Best Dressed and Breakthrough Female Performance as well as
Teen Choice Award nominations for Film - Choice Actress, Drama/Action
Adventure and Film - Choice Chemistry (shared with Anson Mount).
Her forth album titled “In the Zone” was another smashing
hit. She penned eight tracks from the CD. She opened up a New York fashion
restaurant in July 2002 with Louisiana type-name “Nyla”. Forbes
2002 ranked Britney as the world's most powerful celebrity. During that
years’ MTV Video Music Awards, she duet with Christina Aguilera
the song "Like a Virgin", and was later joined by Madonna. Spears
and Madonna locked lips in a much promoted kiss.
At the fall 2003, Britney received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
and wrote a sequel to her first book entitled A Mother's Gift.
Britney married childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander on January 3 2004,
at The Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. The marriage ended 55
hours later, with an annulment granted on January 5.
In September of that year, Britney got married to Kevin Federline and
then announced a career break to start her own family. She was pregnant
seven months later, “the time has finally come to share our wonderful
news that we are expecting our first child together,” she wrote.
Federline already has two children with actress Shar Jackson - Kori (born
in 2002) and Kaleb (born in 2004).
Britney launched her own line of fragrances called "Curious,"
selling d millions of dollars worth of merchandise. Then, she released
another perfume named “Fantasy." In November 2004 she released
her Greatest Hits: My Perogative albums with a lot of copies sold.
In February 2005, she gained her first Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording
for "Toxic" from the album In The Zone. She also won a BMI Cable
Award for writing the theme song for TV show Zoey 101 (shared w/ Michael
Corcoran). Moreover, she was nominated for the 2005 Teen Choice Award
for Choice TV Personality: Female.
Spears gave birth to her first son, Sean Preston Federline, on September
14, 2005 in Santa Monica, California by caesarean section.
Britney and Kevin let the world know their everyday life on reality TV
show “Britney & Kevin: Chaotic”, which mostly featured
home videos taken by the couple. In November of that year, she released
a remix album, B In The Mix: The Remixes. The album contained remixes
of Spears's biggest hits.
In May 2006, she announced her second pregnancy with an appearance on
The Late Show with David Letterman. She posed for Harper's Bazaar in August.
In September 12 20006, she gave birth to her second child, Jayden James
Federline.
She filed for divorce on November 7 2006, requesting both physical and
legal custody of their two sons and citing irreconcilable differences.
In February 2007, Britney shocked the world shaving her head. She entered
into rehab, then went home within a day. On March 2007, Spears and Federline
signed a deal that "All parties signed a global settlement agreement
on all issues concerning their marriage and custody of their two children,"
said Michael Sands, a spokesperson for Federline's lawyer. She got officially
divorced in July 30.
In September 2007, Spears hits the stage at the VMAs, performing "Gimme
More", the lead single from her forthcoming album. Her ‘comeback’
received much media attention and got unfavorable critics.
